What is Kue?

Kue is an AI assistant built directly into QGIS. Kue can help you quickly execute commands you would otherwise do manually, so new users can unlock QGIS' full potential and experienced users can do their work far faster.

Kue development is sponsored by Bunting Labs, who builds geospatial AI products used by more than 30 governments, including multiple federal agencies, and 5 Fortune 500s.

How to get started with Kue

Getting started with Kue is free for 30 days and takes less than 5 minutes.

How to install Kue in QGIS

  1. Open QGIS
  2. Under the “Plugins” tab at the top of the screen, select “Manage and Install Plugins…”
  3. On the “All” tab on the left, search for “Kue” and hit install
  4. In the Plugins toolbar, select the bird icon to open Kue

How to register for Kue

  1. Open Kue and hit the blue “Log in” button
  2. Immediately after clicking the button, use the window that pops up to enter your email address
  3. Confirm your email by clicking the “Log in” button sent to your email
    1. The email will be from [email protected] with the subject “Your login request to Bunting Labs”
  4. Confirm that you want to connect to Kue on the website
  5. Pay for the 30 day free trial (and $19/month after) at the Stripe link on the dashboard you are directed to
  6. Reload the plugin (uncheck and re-check Kue in the “Manage and Install Plugins…” All tab)
  7. Return to the Kue plugin by hitting the bird button again to open the sidebar
  8. Say hello to Kue

What can Kue do

Understand your commands

Kue can understand what you want to happen in the context of your project without the need for precise questions. This means that you do not need to use the exact names of anything. Instead, ask Kue whatever you want and Kue will handle it.

Styling and labeling layers

Kue can adjust symbology ranging from simple changes such as size, color, and transparency, to more complex symbology based on attributes, such as graduated styling based on numerical values or different colors per unique attribute.

Additionally, Kue can create labels based on any attribute for each layer.

Geoprocessing

Kue has been trained to understand all of the geoprocessing algorithms, so it can decide which to use and then run it. If you want to process any data in your project, all you have to do is explain what you want to happen and Kue will handle it.

Kue runs the "symmetric difference" geoprocessing algorithm.

Filter data in layers and databases

Kue can help you filter data in a layer or PostGIS database without needing to use any SQL. All you have to do is say what you want to filter for and Kue will handle the rest, showing the SQL it wrote.

Find files on your hard drive

You can search for raster and vector layers on your hard drive by typing /find and then your file name. Kue will search for file names most closely related to your search, so you don’t need to know the exact name.

When you start using Kue for the first time, type /find and then space, and Kue will start to make a map of your hard drive. This all happens on your computer, and your files are not uploaded to the cloud.

How to get the most out of Kue

Be as precise as you can in your prompt

Kue is meant to do what you want without needing exact terminology, whether that means automatically using the right geoprocessing algorithm, finding the right file without the exact name or spelling, or creating the right filter without any SQL or precise attribute names. However, the more specific you can be, the better Kue will perform.

Ask Kue for anything you want

Kue is built to be as generally useful as possible. If there is something you want Kue to do but are not sure if it will work, just try it! If it does not work, send us an email and we will add it in.

Let us know of any issues

We want Kue to be able to handle as much of your work as possible. If there’s an important part of your work that you want Kue to support, email us at [email protected] and we will work on adding it.

What is on the roadmap for the future of Kue

Precise control over all aspects of layer styling

We are rebuilding the way Kue interacts with the styling of layers in QGIS so you can make fine adjustments to any part of a layer’s styling or labeling.

Supercharged dataset search

A critical part of any map is high quality data, so searching for high quality datasets is just as critical. We are building software to allow Kue to search the internet for trustworthy, hard to find, and relevant datasets.

Multi-step geoprocessing

More advanced GIS users often want to use multiple geoprocessing steps in sequence. We are giving Kue the ability to understand what has happened in a project so it can string processing steps together.

How do you suggest additions to Kue

If you want Kue to do handle a part of your workflow it doesn’t already support, email us at [email protected] or schedule a call with us.
